The Snoring sound is generally caused by a partial blockage in the air flow located somewhere from the tip of the nose to the vocal chords. The blockage probably only occurs during sleeping times or on rare occassions it can persist all the time. This is because our muscle tone is reduced during sleep and there may be insufficient muscle tone to prevent the airway tissue vibrating, hence the loud noise. During waking hours muscle tone keeps the airways in good shape; that's why we don't snore when awake. During sleeping hours it is vital to keep your airflow channels open or Sleep Apnoea may occur, a condition where the person may stop breathing for short periods of time, this condition can sometimes cause alarm for both the suffer and their partners. Various devices here maybe able help you.
