In April 2008 the Control of Noise at Work regulations fully encompassed the entertainment industry. These regulations had already been in place for the previous 2 years although the leisure industry had a sabbatical, now time has caught them up. The law now requires all employers to have a duty of care to their staff protecting them from the damaging effects of loud music.

The Noise Control regulations apply to all venues whether they cater for live or recorded sound, a theatre, pub or nightclub and encompasses all employees from Barstaff through to the Musicians and DJs. The employer must also ensure that hearing protection is worn, there is no point giving out earplugs the regulations require you to do regular complaince checks to make sure they are being put to use.
